Media in the Middle East and the Islamo-Christian Dialogue

Communication for Ecumenism and Inter-Religious Dialogue

Lebanon

Afaq magazine in cooperation with the Arab Group for Muslim-Christian Dialogue organized a regional colloquium on the theme ‘Mass media in the Middle East and Islamic-Christian dialogue’. Journalists from Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Jordan and Egypt took part. They analysed mass media content with regard to interfaith dialogue, taking into account the research and findings of Christian media in the different countries. In addition participants devoted three sessions to today’s burning questions: media and denominations in Lebanon; media and denominational coverage in Egypt; and Lebanese media coverage of religious topics. Participants elaborated a document calling for ‘Mutual Respect Among Religions’ on the basis of freedom of religious belief and non-provocative freedom of expression, especially in the mass media.
