Workshop on ‘Peace in Africa – Communication and Community Justice’

Communication for Peace

South Africa

This two-day seminar focused on media reporting in South Africa and countries of the Great Lakes region, with presentations related to South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission and similar work being carried out in Burundi. The Institute for Justice and Reconciliation presented case studies of work on community healing in South Africa and the Institute’s Africa programme. Journalists present from ten African countries exchanged experiences and opinions on how to build and sustain a culture of peace in conflict situations. The seminar’s discussions were subsequently brought to the attention of participants at WACC’s Congress 2008 and will underlie the future programme planning of WACC-Africa.
