WACC member K C Wong recalls Karin Achtelstetter's recent visit to Hong Kong.
It was a joyful evening when some of WACC-Asia Region's members met Karin Achtelstetter June 8 in Hong Kong - the last stop of her recent Asia trip.
The first part of the gathering was Karin's 45-minutes (or so) sharing of WACC Strategic Plan 2017-2021.
It was followed by rounds of sharing over dinner. Those attending included Ramon Bultron (President of WACC-AR), Rev Judy Chan (Hong Kong Christian Council), Rev. Maggie Mathieson (Kowloon Union Church), Tara Fung (Anglican St John's Cathedral HIV Education Centre), Fr Michael Cuddigan (Columban missionary and a religious boardcaster), Jason Too (editor) and Francis Wong (religion journalist).
Members also shared the latest developments in their work, especially those related to the WACC concerns.
Some of the topics raised during the informal talks were the youth ministry of local churches, after the umbrella movement 2014; how to better use church media as a platform for local marginalized groups, beyond its typical role to provide religious formation among the faithful; a recent documentary on the loss of government archives regarding the 1967 riot in Hong Kong, underlining the right to memory and truth.
Sharing seems not easy to conclude at the end of dinner, so members were invited (by our visitor) to write more on WACC's Kaleidoscope blog in order to continue the discussion and to involve a wider audience.
