Lebanon The Middle East is a region where sectarianism and violence tend to prevail. Without intervention, dialogue between religions and sects is impossible, especially since some powerful and outspoken media and marketing only serve to foment violence and discrimination. Alternative and community media can counter such attitudes by taking a non-violent option towards understanding and resolving conflict. This project addresses the lack of material in Lebanon and the Middle East generally in the field of training and awareness activities concerning non-violence, non- sectarianism, non-discrimination and human rights. It aims to produce an audiovisual training guide for use in universities, schools, NGOs, and among social workers. The activity consists of videoing and producing live training sessions with young people related to awareness-building activities about non- sectarianism and non-violence. The intention is to train while at the same time producing six audiovisual documentaries for dissemination and replication, the first experiment of its kind in the region. The training will involve about 180 men and women aged between 18 and 35 years from all parts of Lebanon and with participants from five other Arab countries. Each film will be designed to have maximum impact and will be complete in itself so that different groups can choose the most suitable topic for their work. Trainers from NGOs, schools, universities and other institutions in the Arab region will be able to use the material by learning from it and by conducting their own training in different situations.
