Organization: Ecumenical Commission for Human Development (ECHD)

Country: PAKISTAN

The project aims to improve the quality of life through reducing stigma and discrimination and ensuring a secure environment for all people infected and affected by HIV and AIDS and enhanced access to information, skills and services necessary for HIV prevention and control among stakeholders in Lahore. The proposal evolves around the basic sharing of information regarding HIV and AIDS, communication skills and reducing stigma and discrimination. The proposed project will also establish Sada-e-Noor Resource Centre in Lahore, where different types of interventions and facilities will be available to target the community.

The project will start with the orientation and training of the project team followed by the identification of target population/groups and organise them so that they become advocates for themselves and others. The level of existing information will be assessed by Participatory Learning and Action. Towards the end of the phase, the level of information will again be measured among the target population.

During the project, there will be different interventions, such as media campaigns, the development and design of IEC materials, the establishment of the resource centre, group discussions, cultural and art performances, training workshops and school based events will also be held to reduce stigma and discrimination. Training workshops for the target community will also be organised for the capacity building of all target groups. The project aims to bring a change in the behaviour of individuals, community practices through publicizing and ensuring the basic human rights and improving access to HIV and AIDS related education and treatment including voluntary counselling and testing services.
