Fiji In Fiji there is a general lack of understanding of democracy, good governance, the rule of law, understanding, respect and tolerance for other peoples' cultures and traditions. Such ignorance often leads to violations of human rights and misinformation. Consequently, there is an urgent need for alternative sources of information that promote understanding and closer cooperation among Fiji's many religions and cultural groups. The CCF has developed a concept for a quarterly newsletter titled Tutaka (Standing in Solidarity), which promotes and publicises the principles of multiculturalism, democracy, religious tolerance, and workers' rights in a context of poverty, squatter settlements, and grassroots issues. Publishing this newsletter at low cost relays information to a larger audience, especially because such issues are hardly covered in Fiji's daily media. CCF will produce four issues a year. A second component is the publication of pamphlets on religious tolerance based on material from during two seminars on 'Building religious tolerance: Religion and human rights'. Sacrilegious acts happen too often in Fiji and the aim is to contribute to education about respect for the beliefs of others. One thousand copies of each pamphlet will be produced in English, Fijian and Hindi and distributed to schools and community associations. A third component involves 30 half- minute radio slots aimed at combating racial institutions, policies, practices and phobias in Fiji. Contact: Rev Akuila Dreudreu Yabaki
