Radio as a tool to assist women victims of violence in Mali |
Radio is an information and communication technology that responds well to women’s communication needs in Mali. Because of issues of access, it is easier for women to use radio than other technologies like the computer. It is fast and easy to access broadcasts and radio is a tool of discretion for women in Mali: they can communicate more openly without fear of being seen and witness safely about the abuse or violence of which they are victims. The project will use radio to help women touched by violence to express themselves and to sensitize public opinion to this nuisance. Each programme will treat a case of violence (rape, excision, forced wedding, pedophilia, etc.) with women’s testimonies, expert opinion and help. The project will also make short videos to be uploaded on Youtube and linked to its website. Contact: Ms Assétou Diarra Website: www.mali-ntic.com E-mail:
