Communication for Education, Organisation and Vigilance: an Answer to HIV and AIDS Print E-mail

Organization: Centro Parroquial Ecuménico ROSA BLANCA

Country: PERU

Created in 2000 by a group of religious and lay people, the Ecumenical Parish Centre Rosa Blanca is managed nowadays by a committee made up of Lutherans, Anglicans, Roman Catholics, Jewish, Muslim and Buddhists members. Rosa Blanca has working relations and is supported by organisations such as Inter-religious Networks of Religions for HIVLIFE', Women Living with HIV and AIDS, United Religions Initiative – Lima' and regional working groups addressing HIV and AIDS. The project seeks to empower the organisations working on HIV and AIDS and their leaders in Peru and to engage religious leaders of all faiths in a coherent and fair response to the situation. It will address the lack of good communication mechanisms among people living with HIV and AIDS as well as 28 the organisations working with them.

It will do this by providing their leaders and the people themselves with training in New Information and Communication Technologies and in the production of content for digital media in order to publish digital newsletters and other resources. The training will enable this sector of the population to improve their communication skills and will allow them to disseminate knowledge and interpret government policies and actions regarding the rights of people living with HIV and AIDS through the use of a portal (www.vigilavih.org). The portal provides information on demands and complaints registered by the group VIGILAVIH which monitors the development of HIV and AIDS policies in the country and how they affect the rights of the population.
