Organization: Collectif des Associations et Groupements pour le Développement Durable: Espoir Vie Positive CADED/EV+ Country: CHAD Despite being an oil producing country for the past 6 years, Chad remains one of the poorest countries in the world. HIV and AIDS remains a taboo subject for religious leaders and despite several initiatives to fight HIV and AIDS, actions by churches are few, poorly planned and poorly co-ordinated. Most church leaders are neither well informed, nor well-trained on HIV and AIDS, nor genuinely interested in the harm it causes and its societal consequences. Through the project, CADED/EV+ aims to increase the involvement of churches in combating HIV and AIDS-related stigma. CADED/EV+ is a collective of women, men and people living with HIV and AIDS. Its current mandate to step up the church’s engagement in the fight against HIV and AIDS was shaped through its involvement in the Pan African Christian AIDS Network (PACANet) conference in 2008. The group has credible partners nationally and internationally, including the Chadian Association of Baptist Mid-Missions, the Regional Office of Churches in Moyen Chari and PACANet. 30 local churches are directly involved in the project which is designed to benefit 30 religious leaders, women leaders, people from the churches living with HIV and AIDS, leaders from the church youth movement and other members of the churches.
