Organisation: Observatoire des Relations de Genre au Sénégal (ORGENS)
Country: SENEGAL Created in 1997, the Observatory of Gender Relations in Senegal - ORGENS - was born out of a common experience of marginalization and discrimination experienced by women at the political, trade union, professional, social and economic level. The women’s group is interdisciplinary and includes educators, researchers, gender experts, communicators and animators. It provides training in leadership skills for women as well as gender and communication training. The group aims to intervene and advocate in all socialization spaces in society, including the media. ORGENS has links and cooperates with groups working in Mali, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Guinea Bissau, Benin, Niger, as well as several regional organizations. For this project, ORGENS will partner with several community radio stations and associations of journalists. The project puts the emphasis on training women in the production of programmes. It will include communication and gender training as well as production and presentation of radio programmes, and the creation of mixed groups of listeners and discussion of the programmes.
