There are no translations available. Welcome to WACC’s Project List 2010/1 Anyone who works in an office has certain tasks that they enjoy doing and certain tasks that they would rather avoid. It is only human nature! One of the tasks which I most enjoy is the preparation of my annual letter to accompany the WACC Projects List. Each year‘s list represents the hopes and aspirations of organizations and communities of people throughout the world—all working with a similar focus: making a difference in the lives of the people who share their community with them. WACC‘s Project List 2010 is a gathering of such hopes and aspirations. WACC is privileged in the project support process to receive proposals; to share those proposals with WACC regional committees; and to work with the project partners to refine and deliver the best project possible. It is an arduous process. For 2010‘s first round of project applications, we have committed to raise funds for 38 projects of one year or less from a total of 160 proposals received. Those selected represent the best of the applications and are those which meet our project criteria, not the least of which is that the project has every realistic expectation of delivering on its stated goals. These are 38 good projects, proposed by community groups and organizations that will make a difference to the lives of people. The Project List is also an opportunity for WACC to draw your attention to some of the larger programme activities which WACC is committed to on an annual and multi-year basis. They represent areas of interest where WACC has determined that we must have a regional or global presence on communication issues and themes where our unique voice, often informed by the partnerships with smaller project partners, has a sustaining and transformative presence. The efforts are demanding but the outcomes represent significant opportunities to ―take sides‖ and to contribute significant leadership in a global context. In 2009 WACC undertook the fourth Global Media Monitoring Project. This is the only ongoing research of its kind, which in 1995, 2000, 2005 and now in 2009 and beyond has coded, quantified and analysed the representation of gender in the media. Our commitment to Media and Gender Justice is informed and motivated by this work. While the research was completed in 2009, the results will be analyzed and made known in 2010. Our commitment to advocacy on the issues identified by this programme means that the findings of the research will inform our work in 2010 and for the next few years as we work globally, regionally, and nationally to support the vision of a more genderbalanced and sensitive news media. Funding partners are an integral part of our commitment to using creative communication to bring about social change. Your partnership, with WACC and with the project and programme activities identified in this list, contributes to that goal of bringing about change for a better world today and tomorrow.
