22 Sep 2014 Media Strategies for Latin Americans of African Descent
Recognizing and Building Communication Rights
Colombia
Three groups of Latin American people of African descent were trained in audiovisual skills. Trainee producers now have increased awareness of how communication and audiovisual skills can be use to cover and discuss social, economic, and political issues of great importance for their communities. Organisations of African descent have drafted plans of action at short, medium and long terms as well as strategies to fulfil the goals of those plans. Afro descendant communities in Colombia, Ecuador and Bolivia have the means to portray their daily lives, struggle and aspirations in a more proficient and efficient way. Several young participants have joined the production organisation Black Label as staff. AAXXI coordinates events with the churches. It is a coalition of 77 member organisations and has alliances with various other groups.
