Communication and Poverty
Colombia
People in the city of Medellin, Colombia, have been made extremely vulnerable by unending armed conflict. In particular, the communication rights of women are denied and they lack access to the means of making known the conditions in which they live. Fundación Suma paz is developing an integral and participatory process that will strengthen the communication rights of the community and make visible the precariousness of their situation. A project directed at 30 women community leaders, members of grassroots organizations, will train them to use communication to express their needs and concerns, providing information to decision-makers in the city, and working with a network of social organizations to promote action aimed at improving the lives of the most vulnerable.
Participants especially women migrant workers become more empowered.
