Communication for Peace
Democratic Republic of Congo
FEPADE carried out three training sessions in three separate districts of Fizi (Congo) covering ‘active non-violence’, ‘democracy and good governance’, and ‘decentralization and management of base groups’. ‘Active non-violence’ focused on taking an ethical and moral stance and seeking effective solutions in the face of conflict situations and the role played by individuals and communities in creating a culture of peace. ‘Democracy and good governance’ looked at how to train citizens for peace and democracy at the local level and articulated the major characteristics of good governance, the role of communications, and responsibility of the media. ‘Decentralization and management’ emphasized ways of sharing political and social power, participation and public accountability. The training sessions together involved 70 local and community leaders of which 30 were women and 40 men.
