An initiative to stop tech-facilitated gender-based violence
Tech-facilitated gender-based violence, or TFGBV, against women and girls is the newest form of human rights violation in the networked world – and it is evolving rapidly.
In international surveys, between 5 and 7 out of 10 women and girls say they have been a target of at least one form of violence online. Such abuse impacts mental health, affects lives and livelihoods, and silences women and girls.
Led by two global organizations, Taking Action for Gender Justice Online is working to check the spread and impact of TFGBV. We use proven participatory methodology to raise awareness, gather evidence, and accompany digital justice advocates in creating an equal online space for all.
Together we can help stop tech-facilitated gender-based violence.
Vision
A coalition of rights-based, ecumenical, and developmental partners acting to advance a digital media environment that is more equitable, sustainable, and inclusive of girls, women, and marginalized groups
What We Do
Educate advocates for gender-just media
We educate community leaders about the media landscape and gender-based violence – especially the reality of TFGBV – so they can spread awareness and invite others to take action for gender justice online.
Train social media watchers
We equip you to monitor social media for misogyny – the microaggressions that escape platforms’ automated monitoring tools and foster an abusive online climate. Social media watchers spotlight gender stereotypes and misogyny online and create a body of evidence to advocate for lasting change.
