Taking Action for Gender Justice Online

An initiative to stop tech-facilitated gender-based violence

Tech-facilitated gender-based violence, or TFGBV, against women and girls is the newest form of human rights violation in the networked world – and it is evolving rapidly.

In international surveys, between 5 and 7 out of 10 women and girls say they have been a target of at least one form of violence online. Such abuse impacts mental health, affects lives and livelihoods, and silences women and girls.

Led by two global organizations, Taking Action for Gender Justice Online is working to check the spread and impact of TFGBV. We use proven participatory methodology to raise awareness, gather evidence, and accompany digital justice advocates in creating an equal online space for all.

Together we can help stop tech-facilitated gender-based violence.

What We Do

On the Horizon

With further support we aim to

Connect communities that are taking action to stop TFGBV. In the Global Gender-focussed Observatory of Social Media we’ll analyze national, regional, and global trends and strengthen our advocacy efforts for gender justice online.

Develop training courses on gender justice for online journalists including church media staff who create content for digital platforms.

Offer gender-focused editorial frameworks for community- and church-based institutions, with support for communication units to implement tailored editorial guidelines for gender-just digital content throughout the organization.

Create a network of support for women facing online abuse.

Institute media awards to recognise good practice and call out sexist digital media content.
