MIDESCO organised an advocacy and mobilisation workshop for leaders of Benin’s churches and other opinion leaders on the theme of public awareness of the role and use of new communication technologies in relation to social ethics. A similar event was held for women religious leaders and opinion leaders. In addition, 15 women religious, cultural and political leaders were trained in interpersonal communication and counsellingtechniques, group animation techniques, group dynamics and meeting management; 15 opinion leaders from the churches and society were trained in advocacy, management and leadership for social change and promoting ethics in the information society. MIDESCO organised two television debates and four radio programmes on key questions raised by new ionformation and communication technologies: programmes animated by women leaders and church leaders, and broadcast on the national network as well as on local church channels. It also estabnlsihed an informatics centre for young women aspart of strategy aimed at the holitics development of women and the struggle against communication poverty.
