24 Jul 2014 The Other Radio Station: Strengthening of a Network of Indigenous Community Radio Stations in Chiapas
Mexico
Memoria Viva has worked with autonomous Indigenous communities and other Indigenous organisations in southern Mexico for the last 15 years. The project sought to contribute to the process of autonomy building of the different Indigenous groups in Chiapas through strengthening an existing network of twelve community radio stations in five different geographic areas. As a result of the project, 12 women and 12 men who received technical strengthening are now able to organise training workshops to share their newly acquired knowledge. An average of 80 community radio personnel are now able to maintain and repair radio equipment in their 12 radio stations, thus diminishing the need for external help and dependency and greatly increasing the technical efficiency of the radio stations.
