CEIM trained the staff of its children’s home ‘Dawn’, including teachers, professional workers, tutors and volunteer workers charged with caring for, supervising and teaching the children. Topics covered included the basis and justification of treating each other well, general definitions and conceptualisations in relation to communication and rights, empathy, interaction, negotiation, and intervention. The staff also held two encounters with the mothers of children in the Home focused on children’s rights and strategies for dealing with situations of violent confrontation. The theme of ‘Let’s make a deal…’ was exhibited publicly by means of a campaign on six urban transport lines in the city and was publicised in local newspapers, on local radio and television stations to an ‘audience’ of more than 140,000 people. The project created greater awareness and visibility of the theme of violence and maltreatment towards children, ways of preventing violence, and using unconventional ways of communicating the message.
