Promoters of Feminist and Popular Radio against Violence against Women

Chile

Created in 1990, the Chilean Network against Domestic and Sexual Violence (RCVDS) has been conducting national campaigns on different forms of violence against women. The project sought to tackle the low profile that women’s organisations have in the mass-media and the consequent low level of dissemination of contents which can contribute to the building of a culture free of violence against women. The project sought to strengthen the communication work of the groups associated to the network, done through the development of media literacy and the use of information and communication technologies. The project worked with 45 women delegates from the network organisations in three of Chile’s regions: Maule, Metropolitan and Valparaíso. The project resulted in: the development of a critical consciousness about violence against women; the development of theoretical and technological knowledge; advocacy radio productions for alternative, community and independent media on critical approaches to all forms of violence against women; and, the development of networks and alliances between women’s organisations, general civil society, independent and community media.
