Social and Community Radio for the Indigenous People of the River Mamoré and the Indigenous Territory of the National Park Isibo

Bolivia

The Trinidad region in Bolivia located on the edge of the Amazon is an area of great poverty and marginalization. The project resulted in the installation of a community FM radio station that serves the indigenous councils and other marginalized communities in the area. The station is now the voice through which the community denounces abuses and land grabbing and allows the community to express their needs and opinions to the local authorities. The installation of the FM station has strengthened the local indigenous councils, and helped them to generate programmes for community development which reflect the real needs of the indigenous communities. Beneficiaries have committed themselves to developing and consolidating an Integration Community Network. 15 Indigenous communities have access to the radio through cell phones.
