Strengthening the Capacity of Faith-Based Organizations’ Leaders on HIV and AIDS Stigma Reduction and Counseling

HIV and AIDS Communication and Stigma

Tanzania

40 religious leaders attended the training and took steps to address stigma in their congregations: services in the congregations have improved and activities involve more and more HIV+ people; willingness of people living with HIV/AIDS to testimony their status; youth, couples and the general community have shown interest to voluntarily test their status; the number of premarital testing has increased; most of congregation members have decided to own the problem and start educating themselves & others.

TADEPA cooperates with the church institutions in several ways: they are consulted to facilitate training organised by the Lutheran Church, Anglican Churchand Roman Catholic Church; they are also invited in their planning sessions.
