Leadership training for women and men in rural communities was the focus of a project that sought to consolidate awareness-raising and lobbying techniques related to social and economic challnges facing the region.A seminar-workshop using the problem-tree methodology focused on identifying priority community issues, drawing up unified framework for understanding the multitude of problems and causes. Speakers’ Training was conducted to respond to the needs of the leaders as articulators, come up with a quick data gathering action plan, and enhance their skills in identifying different objectives. A seminar-Workshop on Effective Lobbying / Advocacy Techniques addressed the need for techniques in data presentation, lobbying among various organizations, agencies, and developing and updating data tools. Conferences on local health issues, maritime communities in distress, population relocation, environmental problems created by the Calajunan Open Dump Site and the Coal-fired Power Plant also took place. As a result of the project participants were empowered to address these and other local needs in more concerted and forceful ways.
