Vote for communication rights in WSIS contest profiling digital success stories

WACC members, friends, and partners have a unique chance to promote communication rights in practice on a global stage by voting for network entries nominated for the WSIS Prizes 2025.

The contest, run by the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), recognizes activities that leverage the power of information and communication technologies (ICTs) to advance sustainable development.

Two WACC initiatives have advanced to the public voting stage of this year’s competition:

  • The multiyear Voices of the Amazon project is strengthening the voices of those hardest hit by the climate emergency. Community radio networks and digital platforms in Brazil, Colombia, and Ecuador enable people at the grassroots to amplify local concerns and to help shape environmental policy.
  • The global initiative Taking action against tech-facilitated gender-based violence (Stop TFGBV) uses a tool developed by WACC to monitor social media for misogyny and microaggressions. This evidence drives collective action tackling gender bias and changing media practices.

Take part in the public vote by 30 April

  1. Go to the voting platform for WSIS Prizes 2025
  2. Create an account and log in / Log in
  3. Go to the Voting Form and in the drop-down menu select AL C8. Cultural diversity and identity, linguistic diversity and local content
  4. Scroll down to “Voices of the Amazon” and click on “Vote for this Project”
  5. In the drop-down menu, select AL C10. Ethical dimensions of the Information Society
  6. Scroll down to “Tackling gender bias, changing media practices” and click on “Vote for this Project”

Votes must be cast by Wednesday, 30 April, at 11pm CEST/UTC+2 (Geneva). One vote per category (item in the drop-down menu) is permitted. A sign-up to the WSIS platform is required.

The two WACC projects were selected from nearly 1,000 submissions for the WSIS Prizes 2025.

The 18 winning projects will be announced together with 72 champion projects at the WSIS Prizes 2025 Ceremony at the WSIS+20 High-Level Event 2025 on 7–11 July.

WSIS Prizes contest

The WSIS Prizes seek to identify and showcase success stories in the implementation of the WSIS Action Lines and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Since it was launched in 2012 as part of the WSIS Stocktaking process, the contest has attracted more than 300,000 stakeholders. The 2025 competition is the eighth edition.

For Voices of the Amazon, WACC works with co-funder Alongside Hope and regional partner the Latin American Network of Radio Education (ALER). Partner for Taking action against TFGBV is the World Council of Churches.
