Breaking the Silence around HIV and AIDS

HIV and AIDS Communication and Stigma

Benin

The pastors trained are now engaged in the fight against stigma and discrimination directed to people living with HIV and AIDS. The pastors set aside 5-10 minutes in their sermons to talk about HIV and AIDS. Women leaders who benefitted from the training visit orphans and people living with AIDS. The women offer premarital training to couples in which they also create awareness on the need for testing. Youth communicate with their peers through the anti-HIV and AIDS clubs in their churches. Almost all the congregants in churches that benefitted from the project have been tested for HIV.
